Daytime Emmys 2006!
Before I get to the Emmys, there two noteable events in the SoapLand today:
1. As The World Turns dedicated today's episode to the screeching and wailing of Emily Stewart painfully played by Kelley Menighan Hensley. What a horribly forgettable episode.
2. The Bold and the Beautiful - I was cheering when the cop showed up to take Bridget and Dante off the plane with baby Dominick. Couldn't happen to a more deserving selfish pair. What the hell was up with Ridge and the gun? I had a good laugh as Nick pummelled Ridge. Of course, Brooke saves Ridge. Hopefully, this wakes Nick up to where Brooke affections really lay.
Now to the Emmys ...
There apparently was a "Save Guiding Light" campaign by the voters. It is the only explanation for Kim Zimmer and Jordan Clark winning. The voters should be embarassed to overlook the amazing Susan Flannery, the best female actor in Daytime, but at least Tony Geary, the best male actor won.
I loved seeing Helen Wagner who looked beautiful. Unfortunately, she has gotten fragile and had a serious fall in her home recently. Thankfully it wasn't more serious. She is ATWT's treasure. The tribute to ATWT was well done. I was surprised that they didn't point out William Fitchner as an ATWT alum. I can't even remember Jason Briggs when he on the show. Overall, the Emmys were okay. I don't know what they were thinking having Rick Springfield open show with his 80s hit. I had a major crush on him and loved "Jesse's Girl," but come on, how are the soaps going to attract new and young viewers with Rick Springfield as their major rock and roll draw? These people just don't think. That's it for now.
